Monastery and imperial palace, Memleben
The ruined monastery at Memleben is a landmark on the Romanesque Road tourist trail. Otto I built the earliest monumental church of St. Mary in the palatinate of Memleben in 942. Parts of the church and crypt have survived.
Both King Henry I (†936) and Emperor Otto I (†973) died in Memleben. Remains of a monument church from the 10th century and monastery ruins from the first half of the 13th century can be found at this significant site, with the originally preserved late-Romanesque crypt. Furthermore, the mediaeval monastery garden, various exhibitions and the monastery shop are open to visitors.
