Redekin village church

Redekin village church was built in about 1200, and has survived almost intact. It is one of the most important replacement buildings in the vicinity of Jericho monastery church.

The tower was built in at least four stages; mediaeval scaffolding holes can be seen everywhere. The church comprises a flat-ceilinged nave, a recessed, rib-vaulted, rectangular choir and a high apse. The baptismal font with its Romanesque bowl and palmette frieze on the upper edge was probably among its original furnishings. The horseshoe gallery and rococo organ (1785), the pulpit and the 15th century altar are all of interest. A small bronze crucifix from the mid-12th century with a frontal view of the crucified Christ is of artistic and historical importance. Also worth seeing are the elaborate stucco friezes.
